Job Summary

Provide instructional design consultation and hands-on work to support the development and delivery of online courses at MIU using best practices under QM and Universal Design for Learning.


Job Responsibilities: 


  1. Work as part of the course development office to assist faculty in the design, development, and delivery of online courses. Assist and advise on transform and learning resources to online environment using the optimal design and use of multimedia and educational software for instruction. 
  2. Design and develop user-centered learning resources, re-vision of online courses and learning modules to provide the most appropriate delivery methods under the QM and UDL standards. 
  3. Work with content experts and other teams to manage course development projects from inception to completion. 
  4. Provide training and technical support to prepare faculty in online teaching. 
  5. Master the Learning Management System(Canvas), and other educational software and technology adapted by the university, and apply to course design and development, including MS Office, Zoom, Teams, Slack, DesignTools, Blackboard Ally, Echo360, Vimeo and others.
  6. Conduct course review and assessment to improve teaching and learning experience.
  7. Explore and research the best practices, online learning model, and software on the market, evaluate and make suggestions on improving current online teaching and learning experience for both instructor and students. 



Job Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree. Education, Instructional Design, Computer Science or a related subject are preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience with online education, course design or related field.
  • Has taken instructional design courses or trainings from universities or institutions like QM, OLC, Educause, etc.
  • With practical experiences of universal design principles, understand a variety of learning styles, assessments, and evaluation methods in online education and training.
  • Strong technology skills and basic knowledge on media work. Proficiency with Canvas or similar LMS systems and other educational technologies.
  • Proficiency in project management skills and follow through.
  • Self-disciplined in work quality and continuous improvement. Able to keep up with evolving educational tech and theories. 
  • Good communication and training skills and perform effectively by email, phone, and online conferences. 
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining a collaborative environment.


Required Basic Professional Development on the job


  • Complete the Canvas Training course and Instructional Design 101 course by MIU Online.
  • Develop a good understanding of Universal Design Principle, Backward Design and able to apply it to online course design.
  • Fully understand the university’s academic policies
  • Complete the Applying the QM Rubric course
  • Complete the QM Peer Reviewer course.
  • Other professional training workshops and courses assigned.
