Community Grant Writer

OVERVIEW

The Community Grant Writer will help secure funding for important community priorities across Muscatine County. This role connects community needs and projects with funding opportunities, develops compelling grant proposals, and builds strong relationships with funders, community partners, and local leaders. The ideal candidate is an excellent writer, highly organized, collaborative, and comfortable managing multiple projects, partners, and deadlines. This position offers an opportunity to directly support meaningful community initiatives by turning ideas and priorities into competitive, fundable projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research and identify grant opportunities that align with community priorities and projects.
  • Write, edit, coordinate, and submit clear, compelling, and competitive grant proposals.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with funders, community partners, and local leaders.
  • Work with internal and external partners to gather information, data, and supporting materials for applications.
  • Manage the grant development pipeline, including deadlines, responsibilities, status, next steps, and anticipated funding.
  • Develop persuasive narratives that communicate project impact, outcomes, and community benefit.
  • Coordinate multiple grant opportunities and projects while anticipating workload and resource needs.
  • Maintain accurate grant records and provide updates to community partners.
  • Facilitate the Muscatine County Grant Writers’ Network and support collaboration among local grant professionals.
  • Work closely with the Grant Collaborative and other community leaders to align funding opportunities with shared priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, marketing, communications, technical communication, public policy, social work, or a related field; 2–3 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise, and persuasive content.
  • Excellent organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Strong collaboration, interpersonal, and project-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while keeping partners informed and projects moving forward.
  • Strong follow-through, proactive problem-solving, and responsiveness to feedback.
  • Professionalism, discretion, and integrity when working with sensitive information.
  • Interest in philanthropy, nonprofit organizations, and strengthening communities.

LOCATION & COMPENSATION:

  • Location: Muscatine County, Iowa
  • Schedule: Full-time, exempt
  • Pay: $50,000 annually
  • Travel: Regular local travel required; occasional additional travel
