Position Summary:  The ideal candidate should lead and set strategic direction in all preventive, predictive, and curative maintenance.  Duties include managing and coordinating the maintenance activities (repair, rebuild, replacement) for production and facilities equipment to maintain and improve technical parameters.  In addition, the ideal candidate will have the ability to support the development of Lean measures.

 

Essential Job Duties: 

  • Manage 1st shift mechanical and electrical crews for all areas through a team lead, including coaching and mentoring direct reports to enhance their technical and interpersonal knowledge and skills.
  • Indirectly supervise 2nd and 3rd shift mechanical and electrical crews for all areas through a team lead, including coaching and mentoring to enhance their technical and interpersonal knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to create and communicate a plan for equipment and facility maintenance that leads improved uptime, availability, and process consistency. 
  • Provide technical support to maintenance and manufacturing personnel by training and troubleshooting.
  • Support facilities/electrical maintenance requirements/codes and compliance.
  • Support for new product launches & new equipment installations.
  • Manage and initiate Preventive Maintenance Program and track results.
  • Initiate and support Continuous Improvement programs, e.g. TPM, 6 Sigma, 5S, and Visual Management plant efforts.
  • Facilitate the creation of a weekly maintenance schedule, and manage key performance indicators, such as: schedule accomplishment, productivity, equipment uptime, budget, etc..
  • Develop with area managers and engineering recommendations relative to repair, refurbishment, or replacement of existing equipment, and manage procurement activity of repair and maintenance goods and services.
  • Develop a resource load to determine appropriate resources.  Develop a maintenance team to execute on activities required to achieve the above objectives including associate development plans.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, disciplinary actions with assistance from HR, and address customer (internal) complaints/resolve problems.
  • Ensure that facilities and machinery support continuing improvement in safety, quality, and productivity.

 

Minimum Requirements:  

  • Broad technical background in manufacturing maintenance/manufacturing engineering
  • Ability to implement appropriate lean manufacturing concepts within the maintenance department ie.  error proofing, kaizen events, TPM, 5 S, etc.
  • Strong spreadsheet skills (prefer Microsoft Excel) with the ability to perform complex calculations and modeling as well as process specific computer skills, e.g. SAP maintenance module, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment both as a leader and as a participant.
  • Experience working with people of various levels and backgrounds, specifically with operators and maintenance technicians.
  • Demonstrated Project Management skills.
  • Understanding of engineering economics (calculation of investment payback and return on investment for proposed improvement projects). Ability to track project financial performance.
  • Proficient in both spoken and written English language.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead / develop / manage individual contributors, and know when each skill is required.

 

Education and Experience: 

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent Maintenance Professional Certification required.

- Minimum of  7 years of maintenance management experience required, 10 is preferred.

    The team member will be responsible for maintenance and repair of various types of equipment, facility systems and other tasks routinely performed by maintenance department team.  These tasks vary from day to day including non-standard work; troubleshooting systems, preventive, corrective maintenance of production equipment, facilities tasks, and project work.  This work will be assigned and completed on both a routine shift basis but may require overtime and weekend work as deemed necessary.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Plan, lay-out, and perform a wide variety of process efficiency, ergonomic, and safety improvements, general maintenance, and fabrication in all plant production areas.
    • Must be knowledgeable in and practice all safety procedures, quality procedures, and company policies.
    • Must be a hands-on self-starter and work well with Tech Team members, as well as work closely with and take direction from Department and Plant leadership.
    • Work with and troubleshoot pneumatic systems including assembly automation, air compressors, dryers, and filtering equipment.
    • Understand equipment safety interlocks and guarding and be able to fabricate, modify and repair in according to plant safety program and OSHA requirements.
    • Work with and troubleshoot hydraulics including presses, assembly machines, and pumps. Be able to complete repairs and modifications as needed.
    • Operate functions based on drawings, blueprints, schematics, sketches, specifications, tables, charts, wiring diagrams, work orders, job plans and manuals.
    • Work with all phases of preventive maintenance, control systems, and instrumentation. Basic Electrical/Electronic and PLC knowledge is desired.
    • Diagnose, troubleshoot, disassemble, replace work on defective parts, and reassemble; operate, check, and make corrections and adjustments.
    • Set-up and operate typical machine tools, i.e. lathe, milling, boring, and surface grinders together with standard attachments to lay-out and perform regular machine operations on replacement parts and fixtures.
    • Use considerable judgment to construct special purpose machines, equipment, or guards from sketches, drawings, with ability to safely alter available machines to facilitate work according to accepted safety standards.
    • Lay-out and build complete fluid power systems of complex design.  Diagnose trouble, making corrections and repairs.
    • Ability to weld and work safely with a variety of hand and power tools and the ability to operate forklift, skyjack and other maintenance equipment and material handling equipment is essential.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    • High school diploma plus broad trade knowledge, equivalent to training received in a formal apprentice program or equivalent experience of at least 5 years.  Use of complicated drawings and specifications; applied mathematics; wide variety of precision measuring instruments.  Experience as a trainer a plus.

    The ability to qualify for Forklift license and Valid Driver’s License required.

  • Will do extensive electrical wiring of control cabinets and repair automation and electrical problems on the floor when necessary. Wiring of the control cabinets will consist of DIN rail style panel building with terminal block terminations. Will be exposed to various voltage levels such as 120/208 VAC, 133/230 VAC, 277/480 VAC, and 24 VDC.
  • Will help construct the Ethernet I/P network currently being implemented.
  • HMI programming and troubleshooting will also be done.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Install and work with and troubleshoot pneumatic systems including assembly automation, air compressors, dryers, and filtering equipment including installation of compressed air piping and repair, maintenance and installation of compressed air systems and compressors.
  • Work with and troubleshoot hydraulics including presses, assembly machines, and pumps. Including any existing and new equipment moves, installation of equipment and related power, air and other utility requirements.
  • Work from drawings, blueprints, schematics, sketches, specifications, tables, charts, wiring diagrams, and manuals.
  • Work with all phases of preventive maintenance, Predictive maintenance, condition monitoring systems, control systems, and instrumentation and network systems.

  • Basic Millwright skills including move and install of lathe, milling, boring, and surface grinders and be able to rig am move equipment and set up at new locations.
  • Perform a wide variety of project duties and support for plant operations.  Use considerable judgment to construct special purpose machines or equipment from sketches, drawings, or basic ideas with ability to alter available machines to facilitate work.
  • Drive a forklift, Skyjack and other maintenance vehicles as needed
  • Other maintenance duties as assigned.

OVERVIEW

The Press Benchman will analyze die performance, make changes and repairs directed from a work order or specific die layout specification.  Disassemble production dies for maintenance purposes by correcting faults or tooling issues either during a production run or after that run. Use of basic hand tools and measuring veneers and micrometers. The Press Benchman reports to the Press Bench Manager. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand part print specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualize product.
  • Set-up and operate machine tools such as grinder, lathes, drill presses to repair parts from the production die to further a production run or maintenance.
  • Verify dimension, alignments, and clearances.
  • Examine standard or previously used dies, jigs, and recommend design modifications regarding construction and function of a part.
  • Complete all paperwork and reports to track what maintenance has been done.
  • Other duties as assigned.

High School diploma. Three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, not required for an entry position.
