Shipping & Receiving Position
A shipping and receiving job with a CDL requires, handling the full lifecycle of goods, from unloading incoming shipments to transporting and delivering them to customers. The role combines traditional warehouse duties with the responsibilities of a commercial truck driver, requiring proficiency in inventory mgmt. & (DOT) regulations.
Responsibilities
Shipping

Order processing: Pull orders for shipment, ensuring all items match the packing list.

Packaging: Prepare and package items for shipping.

Documentation: Prepare shipping documents such as invoices, bills of lading, and labels for outgoing freight via various carriers like UPS or FedEx.

Loading: Safely load outgoing shipments onto delivery trucks using equipment such as forklifts or pallet jacks.
Receiving

Unloading: Unload incoming trucks and deliveries and move materials to a designated receiving area.

Inspection: Verify shipments against documentation, checking for accuracy/damage.

Documentation: Accurately log materials into an inventory management system.

Storage: Sort and stock received items in their correct racks, shelves, or bins
Driving (CDL)

Transportation: Operate a company-owned truck to make timely and safe deliveries.

Vehicle maintenance: Perform daily pre-trip & post-trip inspections on vehicles & trailers to ensure they meet DOT & safety standards. Report any mechanical issues for repair.

Compliance: Maintain all required DOT documents, logs, and paperwork, and adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
Qualifications and skills

Certifications: A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required, often Class A or B depending on the vehicle. A DOT medical card is also mandatory.

Experience: Prior experience in warehouse operations, shipping, and receiving is preferred. Experience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment.

Physical ability: The role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift heavy items and perform tasks that involve walking, standing, bending, and stooping.

Soft skills: Strong communication & organizational skills, attention to detail & safety.
