FRAME SHOP APPRENTICE

OVERVIEW:
Measure and cut wood and metal for window and door frames. Setup and maintain equipment and tools. Finish wood work and frame work before shipping. Ensure high quality and accuracy. Work in a safe manner.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • May help unload wood, metal and supplies to store them in the shop
  • Setup tools and saws
  • Remove and install stained glass windows into frames
  • Measure, cut, and install frames
  • Caulk and paint frames
  • Prepare surfaces, apply sealers, paint and varnish
  • Check quality of work at each stage of work
  • Meet deadlines
  • Keep accurate records of work performed
  • Keep the work area neat and orderly
  • Maintain the tools and equipment

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Lift, carry, and lift overhead up to 75 lbs
  • Push/pull up to 50 lbs
  • Color vision
  • Stand for up to 8 hours a day
  • Bending, stooping, twisting, kneeling daily
  • Frequent stretching and some use of arms overhead
  • Fine manipulation including grasping and gripping hand tools and heavy windows
  • Perform repetitive motions with hands and fingers
  • Climb steps, ladders and scaffolds
  • Talk, hear, and see fine detail close up
  • Use required personal protective equipment·
  • Able to use a tape measure accurately
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Seek quality information and proper operating procedures from prior Operator five minutes before shift change and before breaks.
  • Read press books daily on each job to stay current on proper operating procedures.
  • Operate molding machines, auxiliary equipment, and granulators as instructed.
  • Identify problems with parts, machinery, or mold, and immediately inform Inspector, Building Foreman, and/or Shift Supervisor.
  • When machine is down, routinely perform cleaning and maintenance duties.
